East Azerbaijan Province

East Azerbaijan Province (Persian: استان آذربایجان شرقی‎, Āzarbāijān-e Sharqi ) is one of the 31 provinces of Iran. It is in the northwest of the country, bordering Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the provinces of Ardabil, West Azerbaijan, and Zanjan. Its capital is Tabriz.
The province covers an area of approximately 47,830 km², it has a population of around four million people. The historical city of Tabriz is the most important city of this province, culturally, politically, and commercially. The province has common borders with the current Republics of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Nakhchivan. A fine network of roads and railways connect East Azerbaijan to other parts of Iran and also to neighboring countries.
The highest peak of East Azerbaijan is Sahand Mountain at 3,722 m of elevation, lying south of Tabriz, whereas the lower lying areas are around Garmadooz (Ahar). The heights of the province may be classified into three sectors, namely: the Qara Daq Mountains, the Sahand and Bozqoosh Mountains, and the Qaflan Kooh Mountains.



Generally speaking, East Azerbaijan enjoys a cool, dry climate, being in the main a mountainous region. But the gentle breezes off the Caspian Sea have some influence on the climate of the low-lying areas. Temperatures run up to 8.9 °C in Tabriz, and 20 °C in Maraqeh, in the winter dropping to -10-15 °C at least (depending on how cold the overall year is). The ideal seasons to visit this province are in the spring and summer months.

Mineral Resources :

In recognition of mineral raw materials in the old East Azerbaijan province is relatively long .
Geographical dispersion and distribution of mines in the province is representing the province's rich mining field.
The rich resources of province have helped the development of industry and thus attract the crowds in the territory of our country.
Currently, 263 mines with 52 kinds of minerals in the province have identified 36 types that can be exploited.
Mineral resources and raw materials available in the province are as follows:
1- Metal mines : The most important mines of metal that are used are: iron and copper.
Copper mines in the province of that its origin to the Tertiary volcanic geology is.
Among the mines, save the amount of 2 billion tons of copper of Songon and Zarghan and farm Ahar and 300,000 tons of copper in southwest Sorkheh , Marand city is estimated at 120000. Iron ore mine in the twenty-kilometer is the only iron ore of the province. Other minerals such as lead, silver, gold and molybdenum are known in some areas of the province.
2- Coal : The most important coal and fireclay mine, is in Marageh.
3- Rock and mineral soil : Rock and soil minerals of the province, includes a large variety and abundance of stone, stone facade, limestone, gypsum and cement production are important in the construction sector.Shell of the mineral reserves in East Azerbaijan province in Iran ranks first. More than 6 million tons store of travertine Azarshahr has an international reputation.
Also Decorative stones such as granite and cut able stones are available in the province.
4- Non-metallic industrial minerals : Industrial minerals such as salt, kaolin have economic value.
Salt extraction is in conjunction with the development of food industry, as is rock salt.
In some coastal areas of Uremia Lake Salt is also obtained through evaporation.

A) industrial capabilities :
East Azerbaijan province due to the large factory such as machine building, Tractor, Adam, founder of Diesel, ball bearing, the piston, the lift truck manufacturing, petrochemical, refinery, steel, middle, large complexes of copper and ten other factories is the largest manufacturing plant in an industrial situation of the country, particularly in West and North-West country.
Growing number of large industrial units in the province after the revolution growth has been good, so that a large number of industrial workshops in the province of Ardabil province also was the 1355,209 units, in which 12411 people were working .

East Azerbaijan offers both history, culture and natural beauty to visitors. Some of the highlights, sights of interests and tourist attractions in the region include:
•    Tabriz - mentioned in writing since 714BC, the city is considered one of the most beautiful and historic in Iran, home to:
o    The Municipality Palace - built in the Pahlavi I period and often considered the most beautiful building in Tabriz.
o    Alishah Mosque and Shanb Ghazan - both built during the Mongul period of the 7th century.
o    Friday Mosque - one of the oldest buildings in Tabriz built in early Islamic period.
o    Alishah Mosque (Arke Tabriz) - built by Tajoldeen Alishah Gilani Tabriz in the 8th century, the Prime of Sultan Mohammed Khodabandeh and Abu Sa'eed Bahadorkhan.
•    Bostanabad - 55Km from Tabriz this town is famous for the beautiful Quory Gueol Lake, Warm Water Spring and Aq Bolaq Cave.
•    Shabestar - 60Km north-east of Tabriz, the birthplace of several important historical figures and home to the 10th century Jami' Mosque, Shaykh Mohammed Shabestari Tomb and access to the Mishudagh Mountain.
•    Arasbārān - mountainous region containing Saigram Daq Protected Natural Area (a UNESCO registered biosphere reserve) several old castles (like the Bābak Fort), Jami' Mosque of Ahar and the Holly Tomb of Shaykh Shehaboldeen Ahari.
•    Meianeh - lying between the Bozqoosh and Qafelankooh this is one of the oldest towns in Iran with several historic sites and surrounded by natural beauty.
•    Marand - found in mountainous region to the north-west, supposed birthplace of the prophet Nooh and home to the early-Islamic The Jami' Mosque of Marand, St. Stepanos Church and the Waterfall of Asiab Kharabeh in the Mishoodagh mountains.
•    Lake Urmia - salt lake west of Tabriz and a protected National Park, part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve within which stand 102 islands.
•    Sahand Mountains - massive dormant volcano 50km south of Tabriz, the range includes Jam Daqi (3750m) and 17 peaks over 3,000m.
•    Morodaq Mountain - range 36Km from Tabriz with Moord Daq (2210m) being the highest peak, the mountains are popular for summer mountain sports.
•    Qooshadaq Mountain - range found north of Haris city whose highest peak reaches 3149m and famous for the Gooijeh Boel Pass.
•    Mishoo Mountain - located near Marand to the orth of Lake Orumieh the range contains the peaks of Falak Daqi, Ali Alamdar, Kusababa and Ozun Boel and a ski resort in the Yal Pass.
