Iran-U.S. trade halved in 1Q

Trade between Iran and United States dropped about 50 percent in the first quarter of 2011, according to statistics of the U.S. Census Bureau. Fars news agency quoted a U.S. Census Bureau’s report as saying that the value of bilateral trade between Iran and U.S. reached 46.5 million dollars in the first quarter of 2011 which shows 50 percent decrease compared with the same period last year.

The report added that U.S. exported 46.1 million dollars worth of goods to Iran in the mentioned period of time, down 48 percent in comparison to the same period in 2010.

Iran’s exports to U.S. reduced by 98 percent and fell to 0.4 million dollars in the first quarter of 2011, the report said.

In accordance with its new unilateral sanctions against Iran, U.S. government has tried to cut imports of goods from Iran. The main U.S. imports from Iran include carpet, caviar and pistachio.

The report showed that U.S. exports to Iran were about 16.4 million dollars in February. The figure fell to 13.9 million dollars in March
