Eshaq Jahangiri called on the secretariat of the Supreme Council for Free Trade and Special Economic Zones, which met Monday to study how Iran can use the capacity of free and special economic zones during the sanctions era, underlining that these zones can play a special role in the face of sanctions.

The first vice president pointed to the abundant capacities of free industrial zones and special economic areas for he development of the country, adding it is unfair to reduce the position of these areas to centers for importing goods and threatening the domestic production.

Jahangiri also called for observing environmental considerations in the creation of new areas and cities. Pointing to environmental issues in the special economic zone of Assaluyeh, he said that the planning for such areas needs to consider improving the living conditions of their inhabitants.
